Describe what you do at Grace.
My wife and I have the great privilege of teaching parenting classes in our home that are aimed at providing instruction and encouragement to parents of little ones. In addition to that, I also enjoy the opportunity to disciple some of the younger men here at Grace.
What experience, education, and/or work background do you bring with you to Grace?
I grew up in Southern California where my entire family came to Christ through the ministry of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley. I spent 15 years there, from just before jr. high through the early years of our marriage. I'm very thankful for the excellent foundation I received, both through the preaching of the Word as well as personal discipleship. I was also equipped to lead and teach and serve in a variety of ways. I went to college at UCLA where Grace Church had a thriving ministry. Through that ministry, I grew as both a believer and a leader. I also met my beautiful wife there! I majored in math at UCLA and have been teaching math now for over 20 years. My wife and I moved to the area in 2001 and have been at Grace Bible Church since that time.
What are you most passionate about when it comes to ministry?
I long to see people become more like Christ! I know this will happen as they give themselves to the study and application of the Word of God, to faithful praying, to deep relational fellowship, and to remember the grace that was shown to them on the cross. There is a great joy to be found as we are transformed step by step into the image of His Son.
Tell us about your family.
My wife Leslie and I have been married since 1992. We have been blessed with four wonderful daughters: Elly, Katy, Abby, and Rosy. Elly was married to her husband Paul in 2014. Paul was trained and prepared for full-time ministry at Grace Bible Church and is now serving full-time at another local church. Paul and Elly blessed us with grandchildren. They are truly a delight!
Briefly, describe how you came to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
My father came to Christ when I was about 9 years old. I started attending church with him and enjoyed it, though I did not yet understand the fullness of the gospel and its implications to my life. A couple of years later my mother also got saved and the two of them began attending a Fundamentals of the Faith class at church. I went with them and through that class it became apparent that I had not yet personally received Christ. On one Sunday afternoon, my mother sat down with me and clearly presented the gospel. I prayed that day to receive Christ and have been walking with the Lord ever since.
What could we find you doing on your days off?
Mostly enjoying time with my family -- especially my grandchildren whenever we get the chance!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you want to go and why?
My wife has always wanted to go to Europe. I hope one day to be able to take her there!
What is your favorite sport or sports team?
I am a die-hard UCLA Bruin fan. I cheer on the football and basketball teams in the good times and the bad!
What is the best lesson you learned from your parents?
I'm glad that my parents helped me to learn that it's OK to laugh at yourself. We had a lot of fun and silly times growing up and I think this sense of family fun and jokiness carried over when we raised our own kids.
